braids for thick hair

Thick hair can be a joy to braid, because it tends to be very forgiving of mistakes, and the sheer volume makes even the simplest braid look impressive.

I tend to do a lot of multi-strand braids with thick hair, in part because the thicker strands are easier to work with than when done on fine hair, but also because in a three strand braid (like french or dutch, the individual strands may get too bulky to work with well. Any braid done in very thick hair will take up a lot of space, and it is usually more comfortable to spread it out against the head rather than away from it.
